Ausiello: As dire as things might appear for Rick, Kate and their marriage, you should find more than a little solace in the fact that Episode 7 — airing Nov. 16, during the heart of sweeps — is titled “Mr. & Mrs. Castle.” “It’s going to be a great episode,” co-showrunner Terence Paul Winter told Matt Mitovich. “For the fans who right now are going, ‘What the heck and Terence and Alexi [Hawley] doing?!,’ when they see that episode they’ll understand and see what we’re going for.”

Nov. 23, "Mr. & Mrs. Castle": The fall finale, per its title, is a nod to Brangelina's Mr. & Mrs. Smith -- namely, "the fun of the conflict in that relationship in the movie," says Hawley. On what note will it leave fans heading into a three-month hiatus? "We're not leaving you with a cliffhanger," says Hawley, "but the promise of what it will be like when we come back."

During our November Sweep preview chat, I was sure to ask the co-showrunners what exactly Kristopher Polaha will be up to on the series, besides being tall. “He’s playing a public defender who comes in [during the fall finale ‘Mr. & Mrs. Castle’] and presents with some unexpected complexity,” said Alexi Hawley. “He’s a little bit more than what he seems. “The design of his character,” Terence Paul Winter added, “is that he’s immediately at odds with the folks at the 12th, while representing a murderer. He’s trying to do his job while the 12th is trying to do theirs.”

The episode titled “Mr. and Mrs. Castle” is inspired by Mr. and Mr. Smith. Where did that idea come from?
HAWLEY: As we started to talk about what our fall finale would be and how we would end it, we didn’t want to do a cliff-hanger because we kind of did that in the first two episodes, so we wanted to drive towards something that made you excited to come back but also was sort of the end of the first chapter of this Castle season. So we wanted to get to a place where this conflict between Castle and Beckett came a little bit to a head and do it in a fun way in the same way that that movie dealt with the troubles inside a marriage and professional troubles came face to face in a really dynamic way.
WINTER: And as we promised when we first started talking about this season is that we were going to constantly change the dynamic of the show and this is the end of the first evolution of what this journey’s going to be and we’re ending it with a promise of what’s to come in the new year. People, I believe, are going to be very excited because I know I’m excited about what the New Year’s going to bring.
HAWLEY: I think ultimately we’re really excited about how this first part of the season has come together and we really feel like we’re ending our fall finale in a really dynamic, really positive way and we can’t wait for people to see it.

Any chance we’ll get some more clues about LokSat by the Castle fall finale? –Rachael That Nov. 23 episode, “Mr. & Mrs. Castle,” promises to be the most LokSat-heavy of the November sweeps hours, as we gain better insight into Kate’s plan. Per co-showrunner Alexi Hawley, “Ultimately what she’s trying to do is find a way to get to LokSat through the drugs,” having secured the “fingerprint” of the heroin Vulcan Simmons once peddled on Bracken’s behalf. “That drug pipeline is still open, so if she can match the unique fingerprint of that heroin to a different dealer or a different distribution hub, then she knows she’s close to LokSat.”
