4x23 "ALWAYS" (Season Finale) Spoilers

Kiss happens at Castle's because she shows up at his door soaking wet. I have no explanation for the light other than that it just LOOKS like the same light. And it might not at all since the second light is surrounded by blue and the first one by darkness. It's probably a reaction the lights have on the camera.


Castle probably shows up at Becketts place because he realizes he needs to tell her the truth... it could also be because of their "date"

Could be. But she looked wet there in that kiss preview to me.

But what do I know? I can't tell a turtleneck from a jacket.

Yeah, maybe. But what confused me was that in Linchpin when that CIA agent (what was her name?) showed up at Castle's the lights had the same effect, so yeah, you're probably right.

because it has an interview with Marlowe talking about the season finale and the overall trajectory of the show. One tibbit I found interesting: he knew A YEAR AN A HALF AGO, where and how he wanted season four to end. Now, THAT is planning storystructure and character development!

I like this part of the interview;

When we talked about how we were going to end Season 3, this was pretty much how I expected to end Season 4. There are some course-corrections along the way, like, “OK, given where the characters are, if we do this with that character, I think the fans would see it as a huge betrayal.” For instance, in “The Limey” — let’s say the last scene had been Beckett and the British cop going to bed together. That would’ve been too much of a violation, given where Castle and Beckett are. Perfectly understandable, in terms of human nature — she’s mad at him, now she’s going to go out and get some revenge sex — but I think given where the characters were and what they were dealing with, that would be something that a certain segment of our audience would consider unforgivable. So maybe Beckett went out, had a cup of coffee and poured her heart out to the guy, or maybe she went out and got laid — I’ll leave that to the fans’ imaginations. But I think we’ve been very true to our characters. There were points in the season where our fans have been frustrated, but they were supposed to be frustrated.

For me it tells me that in Andrew's mind nothing happen between Beckett and the British Detective. If it had, he would consider that a betrayal of the characters given where she was. However, Andrew is more than willing to let fans decide that for themselves, and given what happen in the episodes that follow it is safe to say that nothing happen.

Spoken like a true guy. All it tells me is that Andrew new if he went there it would upset "a certain segment" of viewers. The course correction was for fans, not necessarily Andrew.

Honestly, I do like the way he did it because I could definitely see it going either way. If she thinks he's banging the blonde, I can totally see her going, "Why the hell not?" with the Limey. I certainly can see it as her INTENTION when she made the phone
call. However, I can also see her ending up not going through with in, in part because the guy's character is perceptive. Maybe they start making out and he gets she's just not there. Or maybe she does go through with it only to find out just how much that doesn't work for her anymore. I think Andrew's choice is good because truthfully what happened that night isn't all that important to the story. We didn't need to know the exacts any more than we needed to see Castle in bed with the blond bimbo.

“In a lot of ways, it is Rick’s greatest fear,” Marlowe says of Kate’s pursuit of the sniper who shot her. “Not only for her safety, but because it might press him to reveal something that could blow up their relationship. He’s been keeping this pretty big secret from her and he knows what the stakes are. But he also knows it’s the only way to save her life.
“So that’s what we wrestle with in the finale,” the show boss continues. “Whether a relationship or even trying to have a relationship with somebody [who keeps secrets] is going to be worthwhile, and how Beckett, once she learns of that betrayal, is going to process it.”

One of the things I’ll say about this season is, because the two characters had secrets that they were keeping from each other, there was inevitably an element of angst that entered into this season —in terms of their relationship —that we’ve paid for with a little bit of the fun in the series. That’s not to say that we didn’t have a lot of fun this year, but there were certain times we couldn’t go places that we felt would be fun to go because the characters weren’t there yet.

And I think we’re putting ourselves in a great position with how we’re ending this season to allow some of those moments to come back in a little bit stronger way next season. Inevitably, as the characters grow, as Alexis [Molly Quinn] goes to Columbia and the revelations and betrayals are put on the table, they will be able to get past some of that angst and get to a different place in their relationship that allows us to basically re-embrace our fundamental values and what people have loved about the show since the beginning. And we don’t feel like we’ve drifted very far, but we just know that we’re in a really great position to re-embrace everything that we love about the show and that the audience seems to respond to.

Sounds like the start of a real romance to me! You know, the early stages where you can't stop flirting 'cuz you're remembering what you did the night before.

There was an explosion, but it had to do with all the Castle fandom yelling for joy.

When you and I [last] talked and you said “Are you worried about strong fan reaction?” I said, “No, because I know where we’re going.” So, it really is time. And I have to tell you, it’s really exciting for all of us who write on the show, because this opens up a world of possibility in the storytelling
