The pre-hiatus episode “The Good, the Bad and the Baby” will indeed check one item off Marlowe’s to-do list. “The “really fun” hour, as he describes it, finds Rick and Kate minding an infant mysteriously deposited by a stranger in a church, at Christmastime. “If I’m the fan and I’ve been watching this show, I know a lot about Rick and Kate, but I don’t really know how they feel about more kids,” Marlowe notes. “Does Castle want more? And for Beckett, somebody who has been pursuing her career and her job so doggedly, I’m sure it’s crossed her mind theoretically —‘Oh, sure. I’ll have kids someday’ —but someday’s coming up.” After all, I myself mused, has Beckett ever had occasion to handle a baby? “We will answer that question,” Marlowe assures, “in a fun, funny, satisfying and charming way.”

A bleeding man stumbles into a church, but just before dying, he hands a mysterious bundle to the priest. When the bundle turns out to be a smiling baby boy, Castle and Beckett find themselves accidental nannies to the newborn. But when they determine the baby and the victim were not related, they discover that finding his rightful parents may be just as hard as solving the murder, on "Castle," MONDAY, NOVEMBER 25 (10:01-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

" [But] we end our run in the fall with a great and charming episode where a guy walks into a church and he struggles up the aisle and he’s been shot, and he’s holding a little bundle. And it turns out the bundle is a baby, and the baby isn’t his, and we don’t know whose baby it is, and that’s part of the investigation: how did this guy get shot, what’s going on? But it means we have a baby in the 12th Precinct between Castle and Beckett as they become nannies as they go forward in the case.

It certainly brings up issues with Ryan, because his wife is pregnant and his baby is like a month away — and clearly that’s going to be something we’re dealing with in spring: Ryan having his baby in an episode that is going to be very emotional and dramatic. I’ll tease that.

We’re hoping as we come to spring, to see a couple of familiar faces come back and join us. But that’s all in the works, so I won’t advertise more than that..."




Another question, in theory, on their minds could be the potential kids they may have — especially given what was foretold to them in the time traveler case. When will that be more fully fleshed out on-screen? AM: At this point, if I’m a fan, I don’t know how Castle feels about more kids. I don’t know about how Beckett feels about kids. So we are going to talk about that a little bit when we get to the end of the fall and we have our Thanksgiving episode with the baby. So we’re going to start to [explore] those issues. That’s what couples talk about when they’re in relationships
