Like WOW! Pretty cool, huh. I think this is the original that started everything. It's from a BuddyTV Comic Con interview:

So obviously, with the finale, there were so many beats that you guys are now playing out this season. How are they going to be handling the Castle/Beckett dynamic? Because I love you, it's a pretty huge step.

Laurie Zaks: It's absolutely true. Here's what I would say to that: that would be the biggest challenge, because once you say that, it's out of the... you can't put the genie back in the bottle. There was a lot of discussion about that, with the network and the studio and with ABC. Should he say it, should he not say it, should he think it, should he not? When we saw it, and I believe it was shot both ways, when everybody saw it, it was, he has to say it. It was the natural thing to say."

The same quote is used at GMMR which makes me wonder if there was a general press interview done after the panel. Zaks is quoted as saying "she believes" it was shot both ways, which isn't a definite. It's been taken as one, but it seems it never occurred.

Maybe that was an idea tossed around as they negotiated the ending? With all the stuff they have to do to get the show on the air it makes sense that some things are said but actually never happen.
In any event the two different endings weren't ever shot. However, I don't think it changes what Zaks was pointing out: getting approval for that ending was a big deal.

That is a very nice toy! The crane doesn't just move up and down, but side-to-side as well. It allows them to do a lot of shots and angles without having to do as many set-ups and breakdowns. It lets then follow the action or move around it. If the camera's on the ground they have to manually move the camera for different shots. They may be that high to avoid shadows...or just to get way cool shots that you can't do otherwise. (Yeah...I'm a geek. )
