Although there are a number of possibilities (3XK comes to mind, for example), it sounds like at least one person isn't involved: the recently arrested Sen. William Bracken. "I think that aspect of the mythology is closed now," creator Andrew W. Marlowe says. "Beckett knows who killed her mother. If there's further storytelling there, I think we're going to be breaking new ground." And for those fans miffed that we didn't get to see Castle and Beckett's wedding, look on the bright side: The show will have a fresh budget to work with in Season 7! "That's right," Marlowe says with a laugh. "We were running on fumes, financially, at the end of this year." When can we expect our diamond-encrusted invite?

It wasn’t right how Castle Season 6 ended, but I do believe it has something to do with Castle’s dad. Is he going to make an appearance in Season 7? –Nola


When I asked show boss Andrew W. Marlowe if he had in mind a third beat for the Jackson Hunt/Spy Daddy storyline, he said, “There’s always stuff floating in the back of our minds, but it all depends on [James] Brolin’s availability and finding a story that makes sense and honors the characters.” So I myself am speculating no, Castle’s dad was not involved in that finale twist.

In a word, nope. Everything I am hearing from well-placed sources indicates that while David Amann will be taking over the day-to-day running of the show, the vision very much remains that of series creator Andrew W. Marlowe — so much so that I have no qualms answering the next question with a quote from AWM….

I can tell you what’s not coming up – any new regurgitation of the Bracken storyline. Which, to me, rules out the squirrelly senator as the igniter of Castle’s fiery fate. “The Bracken arc is pretty much over,” Marlowe told me after the finale. “We know who [killed Johanna], Beckett has gotten juctice…. If there is any future storytelling with Senator Brecken, it would be breaking new ground and not going back to revisit the old ghosts.” That said, “Bracken isn’t dead, he’s a formidable person and he may someday entertain notions for revenge,” Marlowe allowed, “but it would be [in the context of] storytelling that moves us forward.”

Will Castle have amnesia on Castle? — Crystal, via Twitter


Unlikely. In fact, given creator Andrew W. Marlowe's refusal to characterize the events of the season finale as a "near-death experience," we're not certain Castle was even seriously injured. But Castle will certainly need all his wits to piece together exactly what's happened and why. "There are going to be some unanswered questions and some really great mysteries that Castle himself is going to be investigating moving forward," executive producer David Amann teases. Adds Marlowe: "Why does he do what does? Why is he interested in murder? What has gone on in his past? These are rich questions we haven't really explored." Pretty hard to do some soul-searching if you can't remember anything!

If you were worried that the traumatic events of the finale were going to scar and/or change Castle (especially when it comes to the whole wedding idea), don’t be. Even after everything he’s been through, Nathan Fillion still considers Castle to be a wedding guy. As he put it, Castle is still the man who “wears his joy on his sleeve,” the guy who will say, “Yeah I’ll get married. What the hell. Let’s go!”

And just for fun, I also asked Fillion what his dream Castle wedding would be. “I would love to see Castle getting married on the shores of Maui in this little neighborhood I like to go personally for vacations because there’s a great bay right next door,” Fillion said. “You can snorkel there or scooba with turtles and there’s sharks sometimes depending on the time of day.” Who’s in?

Ausiello: Yes, the  Sept. 29 premiere features a time jump — and a rather significant one at that — but my lips are zipped about exactly when in the episode the clocks spring forward.

Question: I am dying to know the Castle Season 7 premiere title! —Sandra
Ausiello: The opener, which (per ABC) “promises to put Beckett through the toughest case of her career,” is titled… fittingly… “Driven.”
