Mega Buzz: Is a New Office Romance Brewing on Castle?

Those Castle fans that were worried that newcomer Haley Shipton (new series regular Toks Olagundoye) would somehow come between Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) had it all wrong.
That's because somebody else has their eye on Haley: Esposito (Jon Huertas)! "She is pretty cute, and I think Esposito has noticed that for sure," Huertas tells TVGuide.com. "He's admiring the scenery right now."Does that mean that Esposito might have some awkward interoffice moments with on-again-off-again love interest Lanie (Tamala Jones)? Ausiello: Gates’ whereabouts are promptly and efficiently accounted for early into Monday’s Season 8 premiere, and the door is — in theory — left open for the occasional appearance. Here’s more on the awaited hour, per Matt Mitovich: “Even if you’ve read about the unique structure to the two-part premiere, it is nonetheless highly entertaining and compelling — definitely one of the series’ more intense outings. As for the assorted ‘shifts’ we have heard about over the summer: Toks Olagundoye is impressively badass as Scotland Yard outcast Hayley Shipton, while ‘adult’ Alexis is a very refreshing change of pace and fits in very organically. How Much Life Is Left in Castle?

There comes a time when all long-running procedurals must answer a simple question: How long should this show go on? One show definitely facing that question this fall is Castle.

“Unfortunately, we might not be seeing Tory” any time soon, co-showrunner Terence Paul Winter reports. As Alexi Hawley explains, “Adding Vikram (as the 12th’s new digital investigator) takes that slot a bit, and because he serves a bigger storyline” — helping Beckett hunt down LOCKSAT — “it’s more productive for us to use him.” But speaking of recurring characters, I do have good news for Inside Line e-mailer Sarah: You’ll definitely be seeing Dr. Perlmutter again.

On Castle, who played the female from the AG’s office that shot herself? –Pepe
I thought she looked familiar, and indeed that was Jacqueline Obradors (from NYPD Blue, Freddie, NCIS) playing shady Allison Hyde.

During our November Sweep preview chat, I was sure to ask the co-showrunners what exactly Kristopher Polaha will be up to on the series, besides being tall. “He’s playing a public defender who comes in [during the fall finale ‘Mr. & Mrs. Castle’] and presents with some unexpected complexity,” said Alexi Hawley. “He’s a little bit more than what he seems. “The design of his character,” Terence Paul Winter added, “is that he’s immediately at odds with the folks at the 12th, while representing a murderer. He’s trying to do his job while the 12th is trying to do theirs.”


Do you have any scoop on where Castle‘s Beckett will be when Stana Katic was in Milan? –Laura
For the next new episode, “Cool Boys” (airing Nov. 9), Beckett is “out of town at a meeting for a couple of days, at a work-related function,” Alexi Hawley told me. The EP then made clear that she is off doing “real work, not secret work” related to the LokSat mystery.

And they meant it, too. “We can definitively say that that’s coming up in the middle part of the season,” showrunner Alexi Hawley says. “We’re definitely going to go there probably in the episode 14 area — 13, 14, 15 — something like that. We’re still nailing down the specifics, but we want to get into that. We want to, as we promised at the beginning of the season, tie that in to some of the stuff that we set up at the beginning of the season.” See, they haven’t forgotten.
