"XY" - After passing the Captain's exam in the Season 7 finale, Beckett was surprised with an offer to run for State Senate. In the action packed season premiere, Castle and Beckett are adjusting to Beckett's career change, when a call from a mysterious stranger sets off an explosive chain of events.

There are two sides to every story, and this unique two-parter will explore the same story from each of their perspectives, first from Castle's side as he searches for Beckett in the exciting Season 8 premiere, "XY." Season 8 of "Castle" begins on MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21 (10:01-11:00 p.m. ET/PT) on the ABC Television Network.

"Castle" stars Nathan Fillion as Richard Castle, Stana Katic as NYPD Detective Kate Beckett, Tamala Jones as Medical Examiner Lanie Parish, Jon Huertas as NYPD Detective Javier Esposito, Seamus Dever as NYPD Detective Kevin Ryan, Molly Quinn as Alexis Castle with Susan Sullivan as Martha Rodgers. For Season 8, Toks Olagundoye ("The Neighbors") joins the series as Hayley, a quick-witted, free-spirited, former Scotland Yard police officer who works as a security specialist and is not afraid to cross lines to get things done.

Guest cast: Sunkrish Bala as Vikram Singh, Brad Lee Wind as Franco Mancini, Coby Ryan McLaughlin as Brooks, Jack Coleman as Senator Will Bracken, Daisy Betts as A.J.

"XY" was written by Terence Paul Winter & Alexi Hawley and directed by Rob Bowman.

New showrunners Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter are rarin' to "shake things up" as the drama enters Season 8. To that end, Beckett is now captain, a promotion that will "add some drama" to her and Castle's marriage, though Hawley maintains, "The show has always been and will always be about their love affair." That said, Kate will deal with a blast from the past "in a way that impacts their relationship." Seeing Beckett rise in the ranks will light a fire under both Ryan and Esposito, putting that bromance "at odds, but in a fun way." As for new series regular Toks Olagundoye (The Neighbors), as Scotland Yard officer-turned-security specialist Hayley Shipton, "She brings a fantastic adrenaline shot to the show," Winter raves. Adds Hawley, "She and Sunkrish Bala (recurring as tech analyst Vikram Singh) bring voices we don't have, which is nice."

BONUS SPOILER!: If you were hoping to see [SPOILER] resurface one day, we've got bad news -- that character won't ever be returning, for reasons made clear in the season opener.

Teaser aside the first scene will pull at your heartstrings if you ship Caskett and lets be honest, who doesn’t ship Caskett? That’s right folks, Castle is back in the PI business and while he was off doing whatever, Alexis took up suite and started knocking down cases left and right. That’s exactly what Castle is hoping to uncover during the first hour as he discovers that Kate has been keeping some secrets from him, much to his own detriment. I’ll just say that there’s a new form of torture in the premiere that even made me squirm. On another note, I was a little unsure about the addition of Hayley at first, but her dynamic with Alexis brings out a softer side that I’m excited for the show to explore this season.
